Hong Kong Training Contract
As a trainee, Latham will ensure that you receive all the guidance you need. The firm’s partners, counsel and associates are committed to help you grow and develop your full potential. Always available to answer any questions you have, Latham’s lawyers ensure that you have the best mentorship experience possible.
You will have the opportunity to work in the Corporate, Finance and Litigation departments, which allows you to develop key skills and experience in core areas, providing you with an opportunity to explore your own area of interest and develop an understanding of different areas of the law.
You may also be offered the opportunity to spend up to six months in an overseas office in your second year. Before commencing your training contract, the firm will ask you to nominate your department and practice area preferences for your rotations. While Latham cannot offer any guarantees, the firm will endeavour to build your preferences into your program to help you plan your career.

Summer Program for US Law Students
Latham’s summer program in Hong Kong is designed to give US law students the opportunity to experience what it is like to live and work as a US-admitted lawyer in Hong Kong. Our Hong Kong summer associates will have the opportunity to work on a range of challenging and exciting corporate matters (including in the areas of Finance, M&A, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Disputes, Capital Markets and Equity Derivatives) for clients located across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the US, with significant partner and client access and the chance to travel to international client meetings throughout Asia. Our summer associates also participate in our dedicated Hong Kong training program, which has been developed to help young associates learn how to manage and execute deals in a cross-border context.
The Practice
The Hong Kong office seeks 2L law students interested in practicing in Asia or who have ties or connections to Asia. US-admitted attorneys in the Hong Kong office are offered the opportunity to work on a broad range of transactions. The practice is fully integrated into the firm’s broader worldwide practice.
The Program
During the summer, the Hong Kong summer associates can expect to participate actively in active matters in a broad range of practice areas. In addition to gaining hands-on experience, Hong Kong summer associates will participate in the firm’s formal training curriculum and introductory courses covering a broad range of practical topics. The training sessions are designed to give summer associates a general understanding of our practice and the work they would do as associates. Latham takes pride in the collegial nature of the team in Hong Kong, and our summer associates will meet partners, associates and trainees, both in the office and at social events.

2024 2L applications are open. Through Latham Early Action Days (LEAD) you can apply early to our summer program through June 23 at 5:00 pm ET. The general application period is then open through August 11 at 5:00 pm ET. By participating in LEAD, you can receive a decision earlier on in the process.
