Business Services Training Program

The Business Services Training Program (BSTP) is a highly selective rotational program for recent college graduates seeking hands-on experience across business functions at Latham. Designed to provide real-world exposure to the many career pathways that exist in a law firm, the BSTP offers an unparalleled opportunity to build foundational skills at one of the world’s leading law firms.

In most offices, Business Services Trainees (BSTs) rotate across key functions — such as finance, business development, attorney support, and technology— to gain valuable insight into how a top-tier law firm operates behind the scenes. Throughout the program, you’ll receive structured training, hands-on learning, career coaching, networking opportunities, and competitive benefits that enhance your professional growth and personal well-being. BSTs help support complex, cutting‑edge business needs, building career momentum in a setting that values curiosity, creativity, and excellence.

Our Early Career Development team partners closely with each BST to support their professional growth and long-term success at Latham. As full-time members of the firm, BSTs have access to meaningful work, mentorship, and mobility across departments, with opportunities to transition into permanent roles within our business professional (non-lawyer) teams as their interests and the firm’s needs align. Program Overview

• Rotational program for recent college graduates seeking meaningful, hands-on experience at an unmatched global law firm.
• Typically a two-year program, though BSTs may place into a department earlier based on business need and readiness.
  • A two-year commitment is requested (except London, which is a one-year program).
• Rotations are aligned to business needs, with strong consideration given to individual interests.
• Some offices offer bespoke training tracks:
  • Technology Training Program (Los Angeles and Manchester)
  • Finance Training Program (Los Angeles and Manchester)
• Our Los Angeles and Manchester BSTP program is specifically designed for individuals interested in long-term careers in the business of law, rather than those planning to attend law school.
• Our London BSTP program differs from BSTP in structure and audience:
  • A one-year program designed for current university students completing a year-in-industry between their second and final years.
  • No rotations — participants are matched with one department at the time of offer and remain there for the duration of the program.
